ember. the underground city that had been lucky enough to find a way out of the ground before their civilization was destroyed by lack of light and food. what no one knew, however, was that ember was not the only city created by the government to try to save the human race. the 417 civilians from ember where not the only humans underground for over 200 years. there was another city, just like ember, but located much further away.
the city of atheil is located thousands of feet below the ground; isolated from the rest of the world by metal walls. run by a generator, it is slowly losing its supply of food and power. while some citizens remain oblivious, others are willing to break the most well-known law; to venture out of atheil in search of a new civilization. they have no idea what they face by leaving their homes. for all these people know, they live in the only area with any source of life in existence. having grown up without knowledge of the sun or the sky will soon take its toll.
trapped in the city, the people of atheil didn't know that it was safe to go up to land, to the real world. they hadn't a clue that the people of ember had done so ten years earlier. suspicions are starting to rise in this cramped civilization, and people are starting to go against the grain. most of them the children and teens who refuse to believe this is really how life is, and how it will be for the rest of their existence[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]
