what ruby wanted right now was a yummy, salty, warm, chocolate covered pretzel. even thinking about it made her stomach grumble with desire. then again, she hadn't really eaten breakfast so that wasn't really a help. but no matter, she still wanted that chocolate covered pretzel. yet she was almost ninety nine percent sure that none of the stores in hogsmeade sold them. sure they sold every other kind of food, cockroach clusters, jelly slugs, etc. but what she wanted most of course, of course, of course they wouldn't have it. the bastards. ruby paced back and forth in front of honeydukes as students filed in and out of the sweetshop. a few yelled some profanity at her when they nearly ran into her but she simply brushed them off as she tried to figure out what she could do to get her beloved chocolate covered pretzel.
if she were at home, she could buy the ingredients to make pretzel dough and make some chocolate covered pretzels herself, but this was not the case. ruby grumbled to herself as she finally entered honeydukes, on the hunt for something which would still satisfy her craving for something salty and chocolate-y even if it wasn't a chocolate covered pretzel. she was hit with the strong familiar scent of sugar as she entered, followed by loud chattering and unnecessary amounts of clatter all around. it was quite busy today it seemed, much to ruby's dismay. while she liked crowds, she only liked them to a certain extent. and when it was like this - everyone clumped into a rather small space - it wasn't really something she enjoyed. she considered going back outside but realized she'd already been pushed into the store so far that it would just make sense to look for her candy and then get out later. it would probably take her just as long, anyway, since it looked like some kid just spilled a bunch of chocolate frogs near the door.
she made her way to a small section of muggle candies, where it seemed to be a bit lighter crowd-wise. there was fudge, eclairs, other small cakes, but no sign of anything close to a pretzel. ruby let out a small sigh and glared at the eclairs for a while. after what had to be at least five minutes of standing there and staring at the eclairs, ruby finally picked one up and put it in a small bag carefully before trying to make her way to the register to pay without dropping it. she was able to pay for it safely, and she'd made it about five feet from the door before some idiot bumped into her from the side and caused her to drop her precious eclair. the eclair was squished beneath the bumper's foot, who immediately started apologizing. picking up the bag with the now squished eclair in it, ruby slowly turned to the person who'd bumped into her and had squished her eclair. she took a deep breath and then started yelling, "ARE YOU AN IDIOT?! WHY CAN'T YOU WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING? HUH? IT'S NOT THAT HARD. DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU DID TO MY DAMN ECLAIR? YOU OWE ME FOR THIS." before the person could actually do anything or respond, ruby stormed out of the shop and back into hogsmeade.
shaking off all her sudden anger, ruby meandered over to a snow covered bench, dusted it off, and sat down. she took out the poor, squished eclair and licked the cream which had come out off of her fingers. it was still edible, but only slightly. it looked more like a pancake with it's insides taken out now though. not that pancakes really had insides, but even still it did. she carefully licked the rest of the cream off and then placed the remaining squished eclair carefully on the bag as she picked at it slowly, not really eating it. it wasn't really the same thing without the cream. just her luck to, to go in, get something she didn't want, and then have it squished. really and simply a waste of money. she could've used the money on a new dress, or at least part of a new dress. or how about a book, at least a used book. or perhaps, saved it until she went back home at some point and could then by herself a chocolate covered pretzel. either way, apparently she and foods just weren't meant to be today. ruby picked up the eclair and the bag and spotted a waste can nearby, aiming, and shot for it. it missed completely. in fact, it missed by at least three feet and instead hit someone in the back. she watched in slight shame as the eclair and the bag fell to the ground, thankfully leaving only a little bit of eclair residue behind on the person's back. ruby panicked - she didn't need someone getting mad at her for this right now, making her die a little bit worse. so, she turned her back a bit too obviously to the person and pretended not to notice what had just happened.
